A University of Montreal graduate and member of the Bar since 1993, Nicolas Plourde has nearly 20 years of experience in civil and commercial litigation. He is an accomplished litigator with know-how in a wide range of sectors. He is recognized for his great skills in helping parties find a solution suitable for both their needs.

Through the years, he has developed a particular expertise in complex commercial litigation, including insurance matters, banking litigation, injunctions, seizures and other urgent and extraordinary procedures, including orders such as Anton Piller (seizure before judgment to protect evidence) and Mareva (injunction before judgment to prevent a debtor from dissipating his assets).

He has a strong understanding of bankruptcy and insolvency matters as well, frequently advising creditors, debtors and trustees. He has represented numerous clients, doing business in a wide range of economic sectors, in reorganizations, receiverships and bankruptcies under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) and the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA). In his dealings with clients experiencing financial difficulties, Mr. Plourde has also developed an expertise in the area of directors’ and officers’ liability. He has been a speaker at several conferences in respect of those issues and has been recognized by Lexpert as one of Canada's best attorneys in this area.

Mr. Plourde’s practice also includes securities litigation for brokerage firms concerning client claims. He also practices in the area of energy, having argued before the Régie de l’énergie on several occasions.

In the last few years, he was bâtonnier (Chair) of the Montreal Bar (2009-2010) and bâtonnier of the Quebec Bar (2012-2013). As part of this role, he has acquired a deep knowledge of the professional and political arenas, and has developed solid credibility.

Mr. Plourde is also involved in his community. He sits on various boards of directors for charitable organizations, including Quebec Special Olympics and the Accueil Bonneau Foundation.
